    Notes:

    He was an excellent swimmer in local competitions he was well known and successful, prior to WW1. He enlisted in the Army on 28 Aug. 1914 (No. 2/973) as Trumpeter/Gunner in the N.Z. Field Artillery, 4th. Howitzer Battery, he saw overseas action and rose to Acting Bombardier, he was wounded at Gallipoli, this eventually led to him being discharged medically unfit for war service, on 17 Aug. 1918. He was able to enlist again in the Army as a Driver in WW2 (No. 801197) on 28 Jan. 1942, he didn't leave N.Z., in May 1943 he was a passenger in a truck that crashed, he received some injuries which again led to him being discharged on a part pension on 28 Aug. 1943.

    Harold married NICHOLSON, Florence Mabel in 1929 in New Zealand. Florence was born about 1897; died on 13 Mar 1948 in Auckland, New Zealand; was buried in 1948 in Hillsborough Cemetery, Auckland, New Zealand. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Doctor Shirley Blyth Robertson was born and educated in Gisborne.
    She qualified from Otago University Medical School in 1948 and her House Surgeon jobs were
    undertaken in Wellington Hospital.
    Shirley completed her specialty training in Sheffeld, England, where she obtained the MRCOG.
    It is believed she also undertook some postgraduate study in Manchester, England around this time.
    In 1964/1965, Shirley returned to Gisborne and set up practice.
    She joined the staff of Cook Hospital in 1967 and worked alongside Dr Marshall Stewart, until retirement in 1989, Shirley retained her staff position, and she continued in private practice for the duration of her hospital consultancy.
    Shirley's work was highly regarded and she was the mainstay of the service while other obstetricians came and went.
    In earlier years, Shirley played her part in the medical life of the community through her work on medical committees and her involvement with the administration of the public hospital and with Chelsea Private Hospital.
    During this time, she was also an energetic office holder of the local branch of the MANZ.
